PRODUCT: Usborne - My Very First Art Book ( My Very First Art Book

DESCRIPTION: A 48-page spiral-bound art book containing famous works of art alongside a variety of simple art activities aimed at young children. Written by Rosie Dickins & Sarah Courtauld and illustrated by Gus Gordon. Suitable for children aged 4 years upwards.

GOOD POINTS: The My First Art Book from Usborne books is a wonderfully artistic and educational activity book which introduces young children to some well known artwork (and artists) as well as some basic artistic techniques that they can try themselves.

The book is hard-back, with thick glossy pages and a spiral binding which enables it to lay flat on work surfaces and desks.

The book is packed full of interesting and imaginative content, and each double page contains a real work of art (including Picasso, Rembrandt, Dufy, Rousseau, Kandinsky and Matisse to name a few) as well as some simple art-related activities which are based around the piece of artwork itself and aim to teach your child some basic artistic techniques.

The art book is divided into five sections - Drawing, Painting, Printing, Cutting and sticking, and Models - with a number of related subsections in each, all of which are detailed in a helpful contents page at the beginning of the book. The sorts of activities offered are related to each section and include drawing, doodling and colouring, making brush and finger paintings, prints, cut-out and ripped paper pictures, and making models and salt dough sculptures (salt dough recipe included!).

The use of colours and illustration on each page is wonderful, and there is simple text throughout to help and guide your child through each activity. The book even provides a useful list of items your child will need to complete the activities.

In our opinion, this children's art book is a really cleverly designed, fun and ingenious way to get children interested in experimenting with their creative and artistic side. Not only does it introduce young children subtly to some genuine works of art, but also provides some really helpful techniques for them to practise, incorporate and build on....even adults could learn a thing or two!

BAD POINTS: None that we can find!
