PRODUCT:  Braun ThermoScan 7 IRT 6520 Ear Thermometer ( Thermoscan 7 IRT 6520 Ear Thermometer

DESCRIPTION:  A digital ear thermometer with new Age Precision technology which allows the age of the person to be inputted to enable age adjustable fever guidance. Features include prewarmed tip, positioning system, colour coded LCD screen, display with night light, ExacTemp guidance system, and 9-reading recall. Comes with 21 x disposable lens filters, protective case with lens filter storage, and instructions for use. Requires 2 x AA batteries (included).

GOOD POINTS:  This is another very innovatively designed thermometer from Braun which provides piece of mind to parents of poorly children by providing quick, easy and accurate temperature readings, with the least amount of stress and discomfort for baby as well as parent.

The Braun ThermoScan thermometer is placed in the ear and will take your child’s temperature in just a few seconds through measuring the infrared heat generated by the eardrum and surrounding tissue. From a safety aspect, the shape of the thermometer probe is designed to prevent it from being inserted too far into the ear canal.

An innovative pre-warmed tip improves the reading accuracy, and a soft flexible tip ensures the thermometer can be inserted into your child's ear gently and comfortably. A clever ExacTemp guidance system helps parents operate the thermometer by confirming the correct position and accurate reading thanks to a useful light and a beep.

Braun Thermoscan 7 IRT 6520 Ear Thermometer2Usefully, if the probe is not correctly positioned in the ear canal, the thermometer will sound a series of short beeps, the ExacTemp light will sound, and an error message will display on screen.

The temperature is displayed on an easy-to-read LCD screen in either Centigrade or Farenheit. The thermometer has a very useful Age Precision colour-coded display, which enables you to input the age of the 'patient' (i.e., 0-3 months, 3-36 months, or 36 months - adult) and more accurately interpret the differing age-related temperature thresholds dependent on the colour of the screen: green (normal temperature), yellow (elevated temperature), and red (high temperature).

A handy nightlight function illuminates the screen for easy reading in dim lighting conditions.

Conveniently, the thermometer automatically stores the last nine readings in case you need to make comparisons with previously taken temperatures.

It comes in its own easy-fit case which protects it from contamination and damage, and the accompanying instructions manual is easy to follow. The thermometer is self-standing (in its case), has soft and easy to use control keys, and is comfortable to hold.

The thermometer comes with a pack of disposable covers, or lens filters, which should be fitted onto the end of the probe before taking a temperature reading and removed afterwards, to prevent the transfer of infections and also protect the sensor. The unused covers can be stored in the case along with the thermometer.

In our opinion, this thermometer is a well thought-out device, which has a gentle sophisticated design that gives accurate readings in seconds.

BAD POINTS:  Quite expensive but good quality for the money.
