Official testerPRODUCT: Orchard Toys Counting Caterpillars ( Toys Counting Caterpilllars

DESCRIPTION: A 2-4 player colour matching game where players must try and be the first to find all the numbers to complete their caterpillar! Contains 4 x jigged caterpillar boards, 40 x caterpillar segments, and instructions. Suitable for children aged 3 years upwards.

GOOD POINTS: Orchard Toys have delivered once again with their new Counting Caterpillars game....a fun and educational game that develops colour, matching and counting skills, while reinforcing number recognition, memory and observation.

The game is based, as the name suggests, around caterpillars, with the aim that players must be the first to collect all their caterpillar segments from 1 through to 10!

The game consists of four rectangular-shaped game boards, each constructed from four sturdy jigged pieces which young children will love slotting together, and colour coded borders on the back of the boards make it easier for the correct board pieces to be identified.

Each completed board reveals a cute and very colourful caterpillar scene, with cut-outs where the caterpillar's body segments should go. No two caterpillar designs are the same, and there is masses of detail and illustration for your child to spot and identify.

The game also comes with forty coloured caterpillar body pieces, ten to each caterpillar which are numbered '1' through to '10' - each of these numbered segments is a different colour which corresponds to the colours of the caterpillar feet on the game boards.

To play, the game boards are constructed, and the body segments shuffled and spread out, face down, on the table. Each player chooses a board and then takes turns to turn over a caterpillar segment and place it in the correct space in their board. If your child is not yet confident at number sequences then they can have just as much fun matching the coloured segments to the coloured feet! If the player already has that segment, they show it to the other players before returning face down on the table.

The game ends when a player has collected and placed all ten segments in the correct order in their board.

In our opinion, this is a really simple yet fun game for preschoolers which offers many educational and developmental benefits.

BAD POINTS: None, other than there are lots of separate pieces which may be easily lost over time. Orchard Toys do however offer a very useful replacement service for any elements of their games (excluding puzzles) that do go missing!
