PRODUCT: Usborne - See Inside London ( - See Inside London

DESCRIPTION: A 16-page hardback flap book from Usborne Books which introduces young children to the history of London. Includes over 80 flaps to uncover. Written by Rob Lloyd Jones and illustrated by Barry Ablett. Suitable for children aged 6 years upwards.

GOOD POINTS: Like all the 'See Inside' range, this is a really excellent interactive book from Usborne which is packed full of factual and educational content that makes learning fun. The book is perfect for school-aged children, and takes them on a tour of London through the ages, teaching them everything they could want to know about the history surrounding our famous Capital city!

The book has a good quality hardback cover and thick board pages, and the contents page at the beginning lists the different topics of the book in order. There are eight in total as follows:

  • Ancient London
  • The Middle Ages
  • Tudor times
  • Fire and plague
  • After the fire
  • Smoke and fog
  • Under attack!
  • London today

Each of the topics is described in an uncomplicated way, with lots of little fascinating facts and explanations which are easy for children to understand, and great for getting them to practise their reading.

The pages are filled from top to bottom with detailed (and labelled) colour illustrations of busy London scenes through the different eras, with endless goings-on for your child to spot and observe. The best feature of the book is the brilliantly designed array of embedded flaps hidden on each page, which your child can have fun finding and opening to reveal further facts and pictures hidden inside.

In our opinion, this is a wonderfully informative and fun book which children can endlessly explore and learn from, and makes an ideal gift for inquisitive young minds!

BAD POINTS: The flaps may not withstand lots of rough or repeated handling, particularly by younger children.
