PRODUCT: Usborne - The Story of Science ( - The Story of Science

DESCRIPTION: A 96-page illustrated paper back book designed to teach children about some of the greatest scientific discoveries in history. Written by Anna Claybourne, and illustrated by Adam Larkum. Suitable for children aged 8 years upwards.

GOOD POINTS: This is a truly fascinating read from Usborne Books which is designed to teach young children about some of the most brilliant scientific discoveries ever known.

Aimed at school-age children, the book makes an excellent reference book to support home learning, and is perfect for stimulating your child's imagination and inquisitive mind.

The book starts with a brief introduction to science, and is thereafter split into a series of main chapters, including Planet Earth, Our place in space, Physics, Chemistry, Numbers and counting, Living things, The human body, and Prehistoric finds.

Each chapter is subdivided into a series of associated sub-chapters, with each sub-chapter arranged over a double page and covering a wide range of topics, including stars and galaxies, electricity, atoms and elements, measuring time, genes and DNA, germs and disease, and dinosaur bones.

Every page is crammed full of narrative surrounding each scientific 'story', with educational facts, colour illustrations and diagrams to make some fairly complex subject areas fun and digestible for young children.

An additional double-page timeline at the back of the book provides a quick reference guide to the major discoveries as detailed in the book, and a helpful contents page and detailed index allows your child to go straight to the page they require.

This is, in our opinion, a brilliantly educational book that provides a great way of getting children engaged in the concept and history of science from an early age.

BAD POINTS: None that we could find!
