GOOD POINTS: Wow!...this is the first word that springs to mind when you see this amazing medieval-themed castle from Fisher-Price. Impressive enough just in its boxing, there is no denying that this is a playset with a difference.

The castle is a fantastic size - it actually unfolds to over one metre across - and has been brilliantly thought-out, with hinged fittings to enable it to be configured into a number of different layouts. It has a chunky durable plastic design which is ideal for young children, with authentic use of colours and excellent attention to detail, for example in the battlements, balconies and stone wall effect.

The playset comes with a generous number of accessories to maximise playability, including clip-on ladders, a treasure chest which fits into a secret hideaway in one of the castle towers, and blue and yellow flags which fit onto the top of the battlements. Furthermore, there are three knight play figures included, with articulated limbs for posing, wonderful facial and body detailing, and removable battle helmets, shields and weapons.

The castle is very interactive, with some great action-packed features to thoroughly entertain young children. There are three action 'turn discs', one on each battlement, onto which the figures can be placed (in the footwells) and rotated to activate the castle's impressive defense mode, with talons that lock the drawbridge, shutters that barricade the windows, and flashing 'flame' lights, phrases and trumpet sound effects to add to the scene. In addition to this, an eagle's head emerges above the drawbridge and doubles as a clever little disc launcher - eight round firing discs are included with the castle which fit into the eagle's mouth and can be launched at the enemy, with further sound effects and phrases as you fire! When not in use, these discs attach onto the front of the castle.

Other fantastic features of the playset include opening doors and drawbridge, as well as a wonderfully designed break-away wall to enable the enemy to penetrate the castle and search for the hidden treasure! In addition, two fun little mobile catapults, as well as a brilliant cannon, complete with further turn disc and two projectiles, which the castle can cleverly recognise and respond to with sounds and phrases thanks to a unique ActionTech™ feature. Note that a number of other ActionTech™ castle accessories are available to buy separately which the castle can respond to with different speech and sounds.

In our opinion, the Imaginext Castle Playset is a superbly designed castle with some really unique features and a fantastically sturdy and robust quality that is ideal to withstand the rigours of child's play.

BAD POINTS: The toy is battery operated, and is quite pricey.
