Mattel Barbie Sisters' Cruise Ship
PRODUCT: Mattel Barbie Sisters' Cruise Ship (www.barbie.com)
DESCRIPTION: A large plastic cruise ship playset from the Barbie range, which opens out to reveal multiple decks, pool with dolphin fountain, swing, slides, fold-down beds, sun loungers and many other accessories. Stickers and instructions included. Suitable for children aged 3 years upwards.
GOOD POINTS: What better addition to your daughter's Barbie collection than this wonderfully glamorous and stylish cruise ship...perfect for Barbie and all her sisters to sail the seas on a tropical family holiday!
The ship is certainly a generous size, mainly white, pink and blue in colour, with a fold-out design that allows for endless role-play and extends the area of play to approximately three-and-a-half feet.
The main body of the ship serves as great storage for most of the separate parts and accessories that are included with the playset, and upon opening, some simple assembly is required to set up the numerous play features. This mainly involves folding, clipping and slotting the various pieces together as clearly detailed in the accompanying instructions manual, and a large sheet of bright pretty stickers is included to add lots of fun additional detailing to the exterior and interior of the ship.
The ship is very self sufficient, containing everything that a family could want, including areas for dining, lounging, playing and sleeping! There is a spacious pink top deck complete with blue railings, flag, spinning captain's wheel and enough space to fit the two pink sun loungers (and side table) included, which by the way are brilliantly designed with embossed detail down the sides and cushions to accessorise.
The entire side panel of the ship folds down to create an expansive lower deck, with pop-up umbrella, working swing chair, stand-alone seat and rotating fold-down buffet table. In addition, the deck offers an additional built-in seating area, with a further fold-down dining table, swinging lanterns and a wall mounted flat-screen television! There are plenty of very cute 'banquet' accessories to complete the scene, including plates, cups, cutlery and cake stands! Furthermore, the upper deck of the boat flips up to reveal two fold down bunk beds, with built-in pillows and removable blankets.
If that's not enough to keep your child fully entertained, a large pool attached to the front of the ship simply slides out of the base and can be filled with tap water to provide some splash-time fun (easy to empty afterwards too). Two slides attach either side of the pool for Barbie and her family to zoom down into the water, and a central dolphin fountain feature can be made to shoot additional water out into the pool by simply filling up the reservoir on the front of the ship. The pretty sticker tiling around the pool and the colourful bunting that hangs between the railings adds a nice touch.
In our opinion, any old or new fan of Barbie will adore this wonderfully designed cruise ship, packed full of amazing detail that little girls will love, and offering fantastic playability.
BAD POINTS: The playset is fairly pricey and does not include any Barbie dolls in the price. Some of the plastic is quite flimsy and hard to manipulate into position. The sticker detailing may fade or peel off over time.
